Throughout the election season, one of the most hotly discussed issues was the unemployment rate.
When a few Americans woke up the day after the election, they felt just how much of an issue it was.
The morning after President Barack Obama won his second term in office, an employer in Las Vegas fired 22 of his staff members at his small business, citing the president’s re-election as his reason.
He believed the Affordable Care Act would put too much stress on his small business and would cause him to be unable to maintain his staff, so he prematurely cut personnel.
The small business owner made a statement on a radio show that morning, stating he had warned his employees and they were aware that “elections have consequences.”
The first of many issues is that this man got himself on the radio to talk about his actions the day after the election.
This demonstrated a level of premeditation that is insulting to the employees he “had” to fire.
If he had the time and energy to do that, he could have been focusing on ways to raise his revenue enough to keep his employees.
While it is true the Affordable Care Act is safe with the president’s re-election, it will not take effect until 2014, at least not in any way that would negatively impact this
businessman.
Why is it that he is not only firing his employees but also finding himself radio air time to discuss the matter?
This is a premature act to steal the headlines away from the election itself and make a political statement about a single individual’s stance toward the newly re-elected government.
To impose economic difficulty on one’s self is a form of self-fulfilling prophecy.
If this man chooses to run his business in a way that causes him to lose significant money from the Affordable Care Act, it is most likely true it will become so.
It doesn’t matter what happens during the next 14 months.
This man has already decided how his business will suffer and is dooming himself to make it true.
For his employees to suffer because of his belief in the way things might turn out is ridiculous.
Whenever two politicians competing for an office butt heads, there are grand ideas about the instant change that will occur after the winner collects his votes.
Gay marriage was not federally legalized the morning after the election, just as abortion wouldn’t have been instantly outlawed.
The economy has not yet taken the better or worse turns as the candidates
predicted.
Firing employees is not a proper reaction
