Band of Horses to perform in charity series

The Bluebird Nightclub will get a dose of melodious dream pop when Band of Horses performs there tonight.

Starting at 8 p.m., the indie-rock band will perform to a sold-out crowd as part of the Bluebird’s Toys for Tots concert series.

The Bluebird has partnered with local radio station 92.3 WTTS for the past few years on the Toys for Tots shows. Attendees are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys to the concerts to donate to children in need.

Bluebird owner David Kubiak said Toys for Tots collaborators look for acts that represent the music featured on WTTS. Mat Kearney will perform Dec. 9 at the Bluebird as part of the event.

Band of Horses, formed in 2004 in Seattle by Ben Bridwell and Mat Brooke, signed to Sub Pop Records after releasing their EP, “Tour.”

The band’s debut album, “Everything All the Time,” featured the popular track “The Funeral,” which has been featured in everything from CBS’ “How I Met Your Mother” to Danny Boyle’s Oscar-nominated film ”127 Hours” starring James Franco.

The band is currently on tour promoting its fourth album, “Mirage Rock,” produced by Glyn Johns, who has worked with musical acts like Eric Clapton and the Who. The album features a “looser” and “celebratory vibe,” as Bridwell explained on the band’s website.

Band of Horses first performed at the Bluebird years ago, opening for fellow indie-rocker Samuel Beam, known by his stage name Iron & Wine. Kubiak anticipates a great show as the band returns to the Bloomington venue.

“Their music speaks for itself,” he said. “They put on a tremendous show with great energy. It should be a wonderful show.”
