Shelli Yoder

9th Congressional District

Yoder worked in nonprofit executive management and with businesses for 20 years, focusing primarily on helping those in need gain access to physical and mental-health services and educational opportunities. She continued this work as Miss Indiana in 1992.

She was also the assistant director for professional development at Indiana University’s Kelly School of Business in Bloomington. She earned her master’s degree in counseling and human services from IU-South bend and has a master’s of divinity from Vanderbilt University Divinity School.

She is running for office because she believes  hard-working, middle class families deserve representation in Washington. She pledges to be her own person rather than being gridlocked by extreme partisanship. She will fight to create opportunity for all, not just a privileged few.

“My 10-point jobs plan calls for investing in 21st Century jobs in the 9th District (see it at www.shelliyoderforcongress.com). I support infrastructure banks that leverage public-private partnerships to take on these large projects, but this Congress blocked them over ideology.”

“I will look to improve the (healthcare) law but do not favor repealing it. We must protect Medicare. Medicare is a promise, and I will never vote to break that promise.”

She will oppose the cutting of Pell Grants and the reduction of education funding.

“We must invest in education, not slash it.”

“I favor sweeping tax reform along the lines of the Tax Reform Act of 1986, which President Reagan signed. It lowered individual tax rates and closed loopholes while increasing corporate taxes. I support ending the Bush tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires and asking them to pay their fair share.”
