University officials appointed professor of political science Sumit Ganguly the new director of the Center on American and Global Security, according to a press release issued last Thursday.
The Center on American and Global Security is a research facility within the College of Arts and Sciences.
College of Arts and Sciences Dean Larry Singell appointed Ganguly to a three-year term.
Ganguly also serves as the Rabindranath Tagore Chair in Indian Cultures and Civilizations and was previously the center’s director of research.
“I am delighted with this appointment and look forward to working with colleagues across campus who are interested in questions of both national and international security,” Ganguly said in the press release. “At a time when security issues loom large in the global order, the University’s renewed commitment to the study and analysis of the subject is timely and appropriate.”
Singell said the center will provide external funding for projects within the School of Global and International Studies, according to the press release, and serve as the location for conferences and workshops.
“Dr. Ganguly brings an excellent record of scholarship to the center,” Singell said in the press release. “In addition to his outstanding scholarship, he is widely respected as a public intellectual, serving as a member of the Council on Foreign Relations in New York and the International Institute of Strategic Studies in London.”
