CDC director kicks off public health lecture series

Centers for Disease Control Deputy Director Judith Monroe will be the first speaker in the School of Public Health speaker series.

Monroe, former Indiana health commissioner, will give a lecture 3 p.m. Oct. 22 in the Grand Hall of the Neal-Marshall Education Center.

“We are most fortunate to attract such high caliber speakers as part of our new lecture series,” Interim Dean Mohammad Torabi said. “The breadth and depth of knowledge these speakers have to share with the campus community reinforces the vital role public health plays at Indiana University and in the health and economic vitality in the State of Indiana.”

Monroe’s lecture will explore trends in public health, according to a press release.

Upcoming speakers include Bernice Pescosolido, distinguished professor and chancellor’s professor of sociology; Joan Austin, distinguished professor of nursing at IU-Purdue University Indianapolis, and Julia Heiman, director of the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender and Reproduction.
