Band of Horses

Band of Horses

No need to hold onto the reigns. Five-piece “indie” group Band of Horses isn’t going anywhere... yet.

The band’s fourth studio release, “Mirage Rock,” doesn’t flow and doesn’t possess the same beauty of older albums “Cease To Begin” and “Everything All The Time.” “Mirage
Rock” is simply too polished, in a terrible way.

It’s also too twangy.

Whereas older Band of Horses music can be considered indie rock, newer Band of Horses’ songs, particularly “How To Live” and “Long Vows,” sound more like country music, and it isn’t flattering on them.

There isn’t a particular song that sticks out as a hit on “Mirage Rock.” Instead, the whole album just plods along unimpressively.  Want a good laugh? Check out the lyrics on “Dumpster World.”

Hopefully the group can redeem itself next time around, otherwise it might need to disband.
