Wimbush participates in international agreement for graduate studies

University Graduate School Dean James Wimbush recently joined higher education leaders from 15 countries in an agreement to prepare graduate students for global careers, according to a press release.

“I am especially pleased that Indiana University is a recognized leader in international education,” Wimbush said in a press release. “IU not only embraces the principles, but with the recently formed School of Global and International Studies and international experiences stemming from the University’s International Strategic Plan of 2008, we are even more poised to equip our graduate students with global competencies  for productive careers at home and abroad.”

Thirty-four leaders agreed to the principles during the Strategic Leaders Global Summit this month in Seeon, Germany. At the summit, participants discussed trends of research benefitting multiple countries and the increasing rate at which professionals work in multiple countries throughout their lives.

“The principles will help advance the global conversation about a key priority for graduate schools — helping students and new researchers make the transition to successful careers,” Council of Graduate Schools President Debra Stewart said in a press release.
“But they also take us into important new territory, providing guidelines that will help universities prepare future researchers to understand the global possibilities and impacts of their professional lives.”
