At eight IU campuses, 7,785 international students are taking classes this fall.
This number represents the largest amount of international students ever enrolled in a year at IU.
This is the eighth year in a row IU has beaten its previous international enrollment record.
There are 70 percent more international students at IU campuses than seven years ago and 4.6 percent more on the Bloomington campus since last year, which has 5,941 enrolled.
“IU’s international strategic plan places a high value on the presence of students from all over the world as one of the foundations of a university that teaches a global perspective and conducts research representing the cooperative efforts of scholars around the world,” David Zaret, vice president for international affairs, said in a press release.
The majority of the increase in international students can be attributed to undergraduate enrollment.
Most international students come to IU from East Asia. Forty-eight percent of Bloomington’s international students are from China.
“IU’s success in attracting increasing numbers of top students from around the world indicates that we are achieving and exceeding the goals that we set out to accomplish,” Zaret said.
