Bloomington police officials said they have not been contacted in regard to any of their own cases — including that of missing IU student Lauren Spierer — in the case of a body discovered in an Indianapolis apartment complex.
The gender, race and identification of the body have yet to be disclosed and an autopsy is scheduled for this afternoon.
“In reference to the Lauren Spierer case, we have not been contacted by IMPD (Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department) about the human remains found in their city,” Bloomington Police Department Detective Sgt. John Kovach said.
The IMPD launched an investigation after discovering a body in a west-side Indianapolis apartment complex.
A detective investigating an active missing person case in the Indianapolis area found the body Wednesday night after responding to a call from the apartment’s management reported a peculiar odor coming from the residence. The same building had also been involved in a fire.
“We continue to investigate the (Spierer) case including following up on all viable leads, which we do continue to receive,” Kovach said. “Keeping with our news policy on the Spierer investigation, I could not comment in any greater detail on it.”
