IU School of Medicine Dean Craig Brater will retire in June 2013.
The announcement comes after 26 years of employment at the school, including 12 years as dean.
“Craig Brater has done a superb job leading the IU School of Medicine for the past 12 years and working in close partnership with IU Health and our other clinical partners,” President Michael McRobbie said in a prepared statement.
Brater is currently serving as the ninth dean of the Indianapolis-based medical school, one of the largest in the U.S.
The University has formed a 20-member search committee, led by IU School of Dentistry Dean John Williams, to find candidates for Brater’s replacement. The committee will be assisted by an external committee, chaired by life sciences attorney and former Eli Lilly and Company Manager Chuck Schalliol.
In addition to his deanship, Brater, 66, serves as vice president for university clinical affairs and sits on the board of directors for IU Health and Riley Children’s Foundation.
