Female reports on-campus assault, suspect identified

The suspect in a reported on-campus assault of an IU female employee has been identified, and the female employee does not wish to purse charges, IU Police Chief Keith Cash said in an email.
 
An IU female employee of the Union Street Residence Center reported being grabbed by an unknown man at 7:40 a.m. on Saturday inside the trash storage area of Pine Hall, part of the residence center, Cash said in an email.

In the email, Cash said the man had made some conversation with the woman, then brushed up against her and hugged her in what she felt was an inappropriate manner.

The woman was not injured and reported the incident to police about an hour after it happened.

Cash said the man, an IU student, was unaware his behavior was inappropriate and thought he was being friendly.

IUPD will forward the case to the Office of the Dean of Students for further review.
