Still ill

His best in years.

Nas emerges as the anti-Lil Wayne on the rapper’s 10th studio album, “Life is Good.” Nas’ music has never been commercial; he doesn’t rely heavily on sampling or unnecessary collaborations to entertain his audience.

Unlike other rappers, who endlessly ruminate on how many cars they own, chains they wear and hoes they have banged, Nas actually has something to say. Nas has evolved into an eloquent rapper.

The clarity of his voice, combined with stylized lyrics that at times sound more like raw poetry than conventional rap, create a sophisticated sound that is intoxicating.

“Cherry Wine,” featuring the late Amy Winehouse, is a standout. Written by Nas, Winehouse and hip-hop producer Salaam Remi, the song brings together all three artists’ respective styles — rap, jazz and reggae.

Other highlights include “Bye Baby,” which samples Guy’s 1988 R&B breakup track “Goodbye Love” to create a powerful and tragic rumination on the rapper’s failed marriage to Kelis.

Looking for something more sanguine? Pop a bottle of champagne and listen to “The Don” or “Summer on Smash,” because life is good.
