High-brow pop

Album art... smh

Maroon 5 has a penchant for penning upbeat, addictive pop music.

Like Maroon 5’s recent hits “Moves Like Jagger” and “Payphone,” “Overexposed” consists of sophisticated and catchy pop anthems you won’t be able to get out your head. The second single off the album, “One More Night,” is impossible to listen to only once. It’s musical crack.

Fans might recognize “Wasted Years,” written 10 years ago, which the band used to perform live. Accordingly, the general composition and vocal style are reminiscent of the band’s first album.

Highlight “Wipe Your Eyes” creates a soulful fusion of jazz, rock and pop elements into a vivacious track teeming with emotion.

Not enough can be said about Adam Levine’s skillful and sexy vocals that once again steal the spotlight.

However, the drawback to an album that appeals to mainstream sensibilities is a lack of the raw sensuality that characterized the band’s past albums. There is nothing particularly original about “Overexposed,” but it offers high-brow pop songs that beg to be listened to over and over again.
