IU Dean of Students Harold “Pete” Goldsmith and Interim Provost Lauren Robel, inspired by the airing of student concerns at last week’s Board of Trustees meeting, called an open forum with various student organizations Friday afternoon.
In attendance were student representatives from groups such as the IU Student Association, Occupy IU, Coal Free IU, Hudson and Holland Scholars Program, the Interfraternity Council, Union Board and the Residence Halls Association. They gathered to discuss matters on their own agendas, including coal usage on campus and rising student tuition and debt, and to find out how those items were being addressed by the University.
Most students brought up the lack of student engagement on the Bloomington campus and how this can be changed.
A second open forum will take place today from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. .
