Police will continue to investigate a possible theft from the office of the Bloomington Herald-Times, Lt. Bill Parker of the Bloomington Police Department said. The case has currently been logged as suspicious activity.
An officer spotted a man in a maroon pickup truck just after midnight Monday behind National Water Works on Liberty Drive. When the officer approached, the man inside ducked as if trying to hide, Parker said.
The officer observed pallets in the back of the man’s truck and asked the man about them. The man told the officer he had pulled over because the wind nearly blew the pallets out of the truck, Parker said.
The officer asked the man if the pallets were stolen because he had driven behind a building and tried to hide, Parker said. It was too late to check with nearby businesses to see if anything had been stolen, according to the report.
The man denied stealing the pallets at first, but after more questioning eventually admitted he’d stolen the pallets from the Bloomington Herald-Times office, Parker said.
The officer didn’t arrest the man, however. He let him leave the scene, and Parker said the case will be reviewed further.
