A roommate called police at about 5:15 p.m. Sunday to ask for a welfare check on his roommate, Reginald Coffie, 19, Bloomington Police Department Sgt. Steve Kellams said.
Police searched Bloomington for Coffie, but they still have not found him, Kellams said.
Detectives contacted Coffie’s mother, who told police she had called him Sunday. Her son had been extremely upset and crying on the phone, Kellams said. Coffie also sent her a text that made her think he might harm himself.
He has been missing less than 24 hours, but he is considered a missing person, Kellams said. Police searched Sunday during the day, that night and Monday morning.
Coffie is described as an African-American male, 5 feet 7 inches tall, about 165 pounds and clean-shaven.
Kellams said police believe Coffie is missing because he wants to be and foul play is not involved. Though he is an adult, Kellams said police will continue to search for him to be certain he is safe.
Anyone with information about Coffie’s whereabouts is encouraged to call the police department at 812-339-4477.
