A female IU student called police just after 9:30 p.m. Monday after she was allegedly assaulted while walking near Varsity Villas, Bloomington Police Department Sgt. Steve Kellams said.
The student told police she was walking alone when a man grabbed her from behind. She said he threw her to the ground and tried to remove her shirt. She screamed and managed to run away, heading toward Memorial Stadium.
The student described the alleged assailant as African-American and about 6 feet tall, Kellams said.
The female could not provide any witnesses, and she had no visible injuries,
Kellams said.
Kellams said police are continuing the investigation, and detectives have interviewed the student several times.
He said there are concerns with some parts of her statement.
