Woman reports being robbed at gunpoint

Two men allegedly robbed a woman of her purse at gunpoint Thursday.

The woman, who is from Indianapolis, told the Bloomington Police Department she was in town visiting a friend who lives at Kingston Manor Apartments at 3200 E. Longview Ave.

When the woman exited her car in the apartment complex’s parking lot, she was reportedly approached by two men, BPD Lt. Bill Parker said.

One of the men, who is described by the woman as black, about six feet tall, of stocky build and wearing all black with a black hood pulled over his head, allegedly approached the woman and demanded she give him her purse. Her purse dangled from a strap slung over her shoulder, Parker said.

The other man, who was also described by the woman as black, wearing all black clothing and of medium height, stood back and watched.

When the woman argued with the man and refused to hand him her purse, Parker said the man pointed a revolver at her head. The woman reported he then snatched the purse off her shoulder and both men began walking westbound.

Following the men, Parker said she used her cell phone, reported the robbery and updated BPD dispatch of her location. But when the shorter man realized the woman was following them, he allegedly walked back to her and punched her in the face.

At that point, Parker said she did not continue to follow the men. She stayed at the same location until police arrived at about 9:20 p.m., Parker said.

“When we asked her why she tried to follow the suspects, she said she is from Indianapolis and her reaction was to chase them,” Parker said.

Although the case is still under investigation, no suspects have been arrested in connection to the crime.

The woman declined medical attention and did not suffer severe injuries.
