Store clerk murdered, suspect turns himself in

Michael Angle

A Bedford woman was stabbed to death late Monday, and the Bloomington man who allegedly killed her turned himself in just hours later.

Michael S. Angle, 26, arrived with family members at the Monroe County Jail early Tuesday and admitted to stabbing Laurie Kahn, 47, while attempting to rob the store where she worked, Bloomington Police Captain Joe Qualters said.

The murder happened at about 10:30 p.m. Monday at the Garden of Eden adult video store. Kahn, a clerk at the store, was stabbed multiple times during an attempted robbery, Qualters said.

She was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital, where she later died from
her injuries.

Police officers spoke to a witness who said he was chased by the suspect when the witness saw him leaving the store, Qualters said.

When the suspect was unable to catch the witness, he discarded the knife and fled the scene.

A folding knife, believed to be the murder weapon, was found nearby.

Angle was booked into the Monroe County Jail at 1:34 a.m. He admitted stabbing Kahn and attempting to rob the store, Qualters said. Police have not yet indicated the exact motive of the murder.

“I don’t think there is any indication that the victim tried to resist the
robbery, and Angle may have not even told her of his intentions before he began stabbing her,” Qualters said.

There is also no indication that Angle knew the victim, he said. Angle faces preliminary charges of murder and attempted robbery.
