IUSA Congress blog still in development

Making important congressional information available online for the student body has been a main goal of the IUSA Congress during the Big Six administration.

As of yet, that goal has not been completed due to technological difficulties, said Stephanie Kohls, IUSA vice president of Congress.

“Getting the Congress site up and running for early in the school year was definitely one of my goals last year,” Kohls said.

Such difficulties included the IUSA website bugging in September, which shut it down for weeks.

The new website, iusa.indiana.edu, has been up for nearly a month, with the Congress blog accessible via a link on the homepage.

However, the only content currently available on the blog is a Nov. 14 welcome message from the vice president of Congress.

The site will eventually contain resolutions, voting and attendance records and general assembly minutes, Kohls said. She said she also hopes to include a listing of vacant Congress seats, as well as Congress members’ contact information, so students can learn about and directly contact their IUSA Congress representatives.

Kohls’ two interns, part of the Freshman Internship Program, will work on the physical transfer of the files to the blog to have them ready by the end of the
semester.

“While it took longer than expected, I think it will still be effective,” she said.
