A 17-year-old Bloomington boy was reportedly robbed at gunpoint Sunday while he was walking down the 1600 block of North College Avenue.
While the victim was walking down the street at about 12:30 a.m., he was reportedly approached by two men, one of whom asked to borrow his cell phone. He agreed and allowed the man to use his phone, said Bloomington Police Department Sgt. Jeff Canada.
As one suspect began dialing numbers with the phone, another suspect allegedly pointed a gun at his head. Then the victim reported being attacked from behind.
As he reportedly fell to the ground, the men began to kick and punch him. He also believes he was hit in the head by the gun, Canada said. The boy told police he could tell someone was going through his pockets.
After the incident, in which he was allegedly robbed of his cell phone and an unspecified amount of money, the boy went to a friend’s house for a brief period of time. Before the incident, he told police he was walking home from his friend’s house.
After eventually returning home, the boy’s father took him to the IU-Health Bloomington Hospital.
Canada said he suffered injuries to the left thigh and had a large, linear bruise from a foreign object across his forehead. He was bleeding behind his left ear and had bruising on his ribs.
Canada said the victim described the suspects as a 6-foot-tall black male between 18 and 21 years old and a 6-foot-tall white male with long, blonde hair. At this time, Canada said no suspects have been identified in connection to the robbery.
