IU Police Department officers responded to an assault report at 2:56 a.m. Sunday in McNutt Quad, IU Police Chief Keith Cash said.
Officers were flagged down by a student who said he saw another student covered in blood in the southern courtyard of the residence hall. However, when officers made it to the scene, they could not find the subject but were able to follow a blood trail to a dorm room, Cash said.
They discovered an 18-year-old student in the room who had been assaulted, he said.
“The subject said he had returned from an off-campus party by the Villas and exchanged words with a group of seven to eight white males in the northwest courtyard of McNutt,”
Cash said. “The group then assaulted the subject and fled the scene. An ambulance was called to assess the subject and discovered he had a bloody nose and a laceration to
his lip.”
Cash said IUPD has a good idea of who the suspects are, and the case is remaining active while the police follow leads.
