Dump truck driven by Bloomington man kills 3

Three people were killed in Odon, Ind., on Monday after being hit by a dump truck driven by a man from Bloomington collided with their vehicles.

Jerri Davis, 39, of Odon, was driving westbound on State Road Ind. 58 when her maroon 1993 Mercury minivan stalled in the roadway.

Davis’s mother, Paula Young, 56, was driving behind her and pulled her green 1998 Oldsmobile minivan behind Davis’s vehicle.

Investigators said they believe both vans were partially in the roadway, according to a press release from the Jasper post of the Indiana State Police.

Lester Blair, 74, who lived near the road, walked from his house to help the two women. He brought some gasoline to put in Davis’s van.

As Davis and Blair stood outside Davis’s van and Young sat in her own, a 2005 Mack dump truck driven by Jeffery Wolford, 49, of Bloomington, collided with them.

The Daviess County Coroner’s Office pronounced all three dead at the scene.

The road was closed for about six hours but has since reopened. At this time, alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash, the state police said, but the cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Once the investigation is complete, the case will be turned over to the Daviess County Prosecutor’s Office.

The prosecutor will then determine if any charges should be filed.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash and has not yet spoken to investigators is asked to call the Indiana State Police Jasper Post at 812-482-1441, police asked in the release.
