Yielding cardboard signs, bongo drums and guitars, more than 100 Occupy Bloomington protesters left their tents in Peoples Park on Saturday to march in unison on Kirkwood Avenue.
Occupy Bloomington, which spun off of the Occupy Wall Street demonstrations in New York City, entered its second week Sunday. Similar demonstrations protesting corporate greed and inequality are taking place across the globe.
The demonstrators walked from the park to Chase Bank, then onto Monroe County Jail before finishing at the Farmer’s Market.
“We got bought out, Chase got bailed out,” demonstrators chanted to the rhythm of drums as they approached the bank’s entrance.
Consuming the roads and the sidewalks, the mob brought traffic to a halt. While some motorists caught in the scene honked and clapped in approval, others shook their heads.
Once at the Farmer’s Market, the demonstrators’ chants shifted.
“We support the Farmer’s Market,” they yelled.
After the march, protesters returned to Peoples Park to discuss their next action and settle in for an afternoon potluck lunch.
