For three hours Sunday, 32 fraternities and 1,200-1,500 freshmen will take over Dunn Meadow for the Interfraternity Council Fall 2011 Men’s Rush.
From 2 to 5 p.m., each fraternity at IU will have a table set up where freshmen can meet members of the house, learn about what the house has to offer, exchange information and get invited to continue the rush process.
“Any freshman man interested can come and go as they please,” said Steven Panah, vice president of recruitment for IFC. “Sunday will give guys the chance to have open conversations with members and get a good feel for what each chapter’s all about.”
Anyone interested in rushing should register online before attending Sunday’s event. Each table will have more information about the individual chapter, including programs, involvement, community activity, rituals and history.
After the meet-and-greets, chapters will follow up with freshmen and invite them to house rush events. Attendees are encouraged to exchange contact information with at least eight houses.
“Being in a house opens so many doors for freshmen,” Panah said, “from helping them academically to allowing them to be around people with similar interests, to the life-long friendships and the campus involvement and leadership opportunities.”
Panah believes rushing and attending the kickoff will bring in the next class of diverse greek students.
“Students can expect to go out there and have some fun, meet great people, have good food and find the house for them,” he said. “They will be given the chance to learn about greek life and learn about this great and diverse community and become a part of it.”
Registration before Sunday is available at indianaifc.mycampusdirector.com. There will be house tours Friday and Sunday of the following week. More information is available on the IFC website, iubifc.com.
