Bloomington woman allegedly urinates in public, kicks officer

Helen E. Studebaker, 47, was arrested in a parking garage Sunday after allegedly engaging in a hit and run, driving while under the influence of alcohol and urinating in a public place.

Following her arrest, Studebaker was cited with an additional charge after allegedly kicking a male officer in the groin.

Bloomington Police Department Sgt. Steve Kellams said a citizen saw Studebaker sideswipe a parked car on her way into the parking garage on North Morton Street at approximately 11 p.m.

When she proceeded to enter the parking garage after the accident, the witness called the police and reported the accident.

When officers responded at the parking garage, Studebaker was allegedly found urinating in front of her silver Toyota Solara on the third floor.

After officers issued a sobriety test, Studebaker was arrested, Kellams said.

A blood test identified her blood alcohol content was more than two times the legal limit to drive.

Following the blood test, officers reportedly took Studebaker to the parking lot outside the BPD.

Because police said Studebaker was acting in an unruly manner, one officer waited with her in the parking lot while another retrieved a squad car in order to transport Studebaker to the Monroe County Jail.

Studebaker then allegedly kicked the officer in the groin.

According to Kellams, the officer did not suffer any prolonged injuries.

For her assault, Studebaker is being charged with battery on a police officer — a felony — along with charges for driving while intoxicated, a hit and run and the public indecency/indecent exposure.
