7th person dies from injuries after Indiana State Fair stage collapse

A seventh person has died of injuries related to the stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair on Aug. 13.

Megan Toothman, a 24-year-old student in Ohio from Wittenberg University, was on life support Monday morning, the Indiana State Police said in a statement.

She died at 3:31 p.m. that afternoon, the Marion County Coroner’s Office confirmed late Monday.

“Late last night it became apparent that our Meagan was no longer with us,” Toothman’s parents wrote Monday on the website caringbridge.org.

Her parents said they were keeping her on life support to allow her organs to be donated.

“This afternoon she is scheduled for a surgery that will provide gifts of sight, health and life to dozens who are in need,” they wrote.

The State Fair stage collapse had already claimed the lives of six other people. The collapse was caused by a powerful gust of wind, carrying dirt and rain, which slammed into the rigging and toppled it into a crowd waiting to listen to the country music duo Sugarland.
