State police to conduct sobriety checkpoint

Indiana State Police have announced they will conduct a sobriety checkpoint in Monroe County on Friday. The exact time and location of the checkpoint will not be released, according to an ISP press release.

Drivers that pass through the checkpoint will have to present their licenses and registrations.

ISP Sergeant Curt Durnil said police hope to deter drunk drivers by announcing the checkpoint.

“We don’t want anyone out there to put anybody in harm’s way,” Durnil said in a press release. “And secondly, of course, we’ll see, with the checkpoint itself, we hope to remove drunk drivers who actually come through our checkpoint.”
