IUPD appoints Laury Flint as deputy chief

As deputy chief, Flint will be second in command to IUPD Chief Keith Cash and will act in his place in his absence. The deputy chief also has multiple roles in administration, budget planning and overseeing other officers, Cash said.

The decision to appoint Flint, a veteran lieutenant of IUPD, was made with help from a committee that included members of the IU Student Association, Residential Programs and Services and other large organizations on campus, Cash said.

Candidates were considered from multiple IU campuses.

The position had previously existed at IUPD but has been vacant since Cash became chief. Cash said Flint was the logical choice for the job because she had the practical experience.

Her abilities to organize and plan for various management tasks are highly valuable skills, Cash added.

Flint, an IU alumna, has been an administrative lieutenant since 2001 and worked with multiple University offices and committees to monitor and improve
campus safety.

She progressed through the ranks of IUPD from her start as a patrol officer in 1982. Flint also graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy in 2007 and teaches for the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. She worked with the University’s All Hazard Incident Management Team.
