Tequila, laptops stolen from Monroe County Humane Association

Bloomington Police Department arrested a man early Monday in connection with a burglary at the Monroe County Humane Association.

Last Thursday or Friday, staff of the MCHA reported they’d been burglarized and were missing two laptops, a camera, a video camera and three bottles of tequila.

The MCHA had the alcohol designated for auction at a charity event.

BPD was contacted at 12:42 a.m. Monday about an argument at 2300 Brown Ave. The person who called police said shots were fired, so officers, per policy, searched the house, BPD Lt. Bill Parker said.

BPD didn’t discover weapons or evidence of shots fired, but they did find two laptops and a bottle of tequila. The serial numbers of the laptops matched the numbers of the computers stolen last Thursday or Friday.

After interviewing the residents of the house, BPD arrested Tyler S. Verhines, 19, on preliminary charges of receiving stolen property, a Class D felony, Parker said.

Verhines said he bought them off an unknown male. He said he’d bought two other bottles of alcohol from the man but had consumed them.

BPD is still investigating to find out if Verhines was the burglar or if he can point them to the burglar.
