When you stop to think about it, we use baseball expressions every day. Here are just a few:
1. “She’s out of your league.” Whether she’s too smart, too attractive or just a different class of person, she made the major leagues, and you’re stuck in the minors.
2. “His ideas come from way out of left field.” Maybe you’re just thinking outside the box, but somebody’s trying to say you’re a weirdo.
3. “Maybe I’ll get to third base tonight.” We all know the bases: tongue kissing on first, petting around second, unhinging the bra around shortstop with the hope that a home run is in sight.
4. “He threw me a real curveball.” Somebody makes an unexpected move, and you don’t know how to deal with it.
5. “Just ballpark it for me.” You don’t need exact numbers; a rough estimate will do.
