From 5 a.m. through 12 p.m. today troopers from the Indianapolis Post have responded to a combination of 68 vehicle crashes and single vehicle slide-offs throughout the greater Indianapolis area.
The Indiana State Police would like to remind the public that the weather doesn’t cause people to crash — it’s people that don’t adjust their driving to the existing conditions that cause crashes.
The police also want to remind drivers that should their vehicle break down on the interstate, they should make every effort to have the vehicle moved by calling a towing company.
Vehicles left abandoned along the side of the interstate are subject to immediate removal to eliminate road hazards for other motorists and allow The Indiana Department Of Transportation better access for snow removal.
“As I often say, better to spend $125 for a tow off the road than have your car crashed into and be a total loss — not to mention the possibility of someone being injured or killed,” First Sergeant David R. Bursten said in a press release.
