Planned Parenthood of Indiana lowers flu shot prices statewide

FROM IDS REPORTS

Media officials at Planned Parenthood of Indiana announced today they will offer influenza vaccines for the 2010-11 season for $10 per vaccine.

PPIN previously offered flu vaccines for $15, one of the lowest costs in the state.

The Indiana State Department of Health announced the first Indiana flu death of the 2010-11 season on Dec. 22. No other information about the deceased was released.

“The flu season is in full swing right now, so this is a very good time to get yourself vaccinated,” PPIN President and CEO Betty Cockrum said.

The ISDH reports that the season will likely peak in January or February but can last through May.

Flu shots from PPIN are available at 19 locations, including one in Bloomington and four in Indianapolis.

The Centers for Disease Control recommend annual vaccinations for everyone ages six months or older. Vaccinations at PPIN centers are only available to people at least 12 years old.

Anyone who wishes to receive a vaccination from PPIN must make an appointment in advance. The phone number for Bloomington’s PPIN health center is 812-336-0219.

“We want to help our patients stay healthy,” Cockrum said. “Knowing that we’re often the only medical providers some of them will see, it’s important that we have a variety of affordable services at each of our health centers.”
