The Association of American Law Schools chose its new president-elect in Lauren Robel, dean of the IU Mauer School of Law, during its annual meeting in early January.
Robel will become president in Jan. 2012 and will serve a one-year term.
AALS is the primary organization representing the interest of law schools and law professors to all constituents that have interest in legal education, Robel said.
Since it is voluntary, the president position will not interfere with Robel’s position as dean. She will be responsible for working on policy direction and setting the theme for the annual meeting, Robel said.
“I’m excited because it is an important period of time for legal education because the nature of legal practice is changing dramatically,” she said.
