I-65 altercation leads to attempted shooting, arrest

A confrontation between two I-65 drivers at approximately 1:45 a.m. today ended in an attempted shooting and an arrest by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
Charles Kidson, 26, of Indianapolis was driving northbound on I-65 this morning behind Antonio Diaz, 35, of Indianapolis.

Kidson told Indiana State troopers that Diaz’s white Ford Expedition was “all over the roadway.” Kidson stopped his vehicle after the Expedition pulled over in the emergency berm of the highway.

Upon exiting his vehicle, Kidson heard yells for help. Kidson approached the Expedition and saw Diaz pointing a handgun at him through a half-open window. The two men struggled for control of the gun until one shot was fired.

After exiting his vehicle and tossing the fired handgun over a concrete barrier wall, Diaz fled the scene on foot. He headed south along the northbound lanes of I-65.

Diaz got as far as 29th and Clifton, where IMPD officers encountered and apprehended him. Diaz had minor bleeding from his hand and was sent to Wishard Hospital for treatment.

Kidson was not injured.

Diaz was arrested and convicted of a Class A misdemeanor of operating while intoxicated and is currently being held at Wishard Hospital Detention.
Further charges may be filed once the ongoing investigation is complete.
