The IU Board of Trustees convened for the first of a two-day meeting Thursday at IU-East Richmond to discuss topics from the facilities and external relations committees.
The board first discussed the long-range plans and aspirations for the University, IU Spokesman Larry MacIntyre said.
“There were no decisions made, it was just sort of a freewheeling discussion on where the University should go,” MacIntyre said.
Vice President for Public Affairs Tom Morrison introduced design, project and real estate approval on Bloomington and IU-Purdue University Indianapolis campuses for the board to vote on during Friday’s meeting.
The approvals included a renovation to McNutt and Teter Quad’s restrooms and a design approval for both a neuroscience research building and a Eugene and Marilyn Glick Eye Institute to be built on the IUPUI campus.
The trustees also gave approval for IU to swap out land with the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity house on Third Street to be a possible site for a Maurer School of Law
expansion.
On Friday, the Board will further discuss construction and renovation plans, as well as hear an update on health care costs related to the new employee health care program, slated to begin in January. The finance and audit committee will start Friday’s meeting at 8 a.m.
