“In a record-setting crowd of nearly 2,300 runners, junior David Burton made a simple fashion statement in Dunn Meadow. He wore only tight black short-shorts, socks and sneakers, and an American flag draped around his neck, superhero style,” according to an IDS article.
More than 2,300 runners came out for the mile, the biggest crowd in its three-year Homecoming Week history.
“The shorts are for comfort,” Burton said in the article. “The socks are a necessity, and the flag is for this country.”
During the race, runners jumped in Showalter Fountain, breaking one of the fish in the celebration.
