8 Bloomington food establishments cited for violations

Eight Bloomington food establishments were recently cited for critical violations following October food inspections by the Monroe County Health Department.

Of the eight, three of the establishments were able to correct their problems during the inspection.

“A critical failure, if not corrected, is more likely to cause a foodborne illness,” said Sylvia Garrison, Monroe County Health Department Chief Food Sanitarian. “That doesn’t mean you will get sick, but it’s more likely.”

Garrison said the punishment for these violations differ depending on their severity. Some are expected to be corrected during the inspection or within 24 hours, but some are given more time.

“We’ll do follow-up inspections,” Garrison said. “We don’t fine at this time.”
She said it is rare for a food establishment to be closed due to a health violation and will only occur if it is very severe and could put the public at risk.
