Coach Hep Cancer Challenge Blood Drive brings record turn out

The first Coach Hep Cancer Challenge Blood Drive, which took place from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday outside the Virgil T. DeVault Alumni Center saw 210 students, faculty and more sign in and donate 170 units of blood.

The blood drive’s goal was 150 units, said American Red Cross Donor Recruitment Supervisor Joe Conder in an e-mail.

“We saved many lives at IU October 12, Tuesday, and we thank everyone,” he said.

The Coach Hep Cancer Challenge Blood Drive, a Homecoming week event, was sponsored by the IU Student Alumni Association and is part of the 14th annual IU Blood Donor Challenge. Since 1997, the annual blood drive has brought in over 62,000 donations.
