Student reportedly attacked Saturday near Assembly Hall

An 18-year-old male was reportedly attacked and robbed at 2:36 a.m. Saturday  at the intersection of 17th Street and Woodlawn Avenue, IU Police Department Public Information Officer Keith Cash said in a press release.

The student, whose name was not released, told police he was walking back to his campus residence when two male suspects approached him.

The first, Cash said, was described as a heavy set white male and the second as a skinny black male.

The white male was reported as having a thin, chinstrap beard and wearing a red T-shirt.
When the white male approached the victim, he shouted, “Hey, you want to fight?” according to the press release.

A group of male subjects encouraged the subject, the victim stated in the report.
Cash said the victim’s cell phone was stolen after he was struck by both suspects.
The suspects were last seen running between Memorial Stadium and Assembly Hall.

IUPD is still investigating the incident and is seeking information.

If you witnessed the incident or have any information, call 812-855-4286.
