Representatives from student organizations and community agencies will be on hand to answer questions and recruit new members at the annual Student Involvement Fair.
Opportunities for involvement begin on IU’s campus but extend into Monroe County.
Help the local community
“Getting involved” spans beyond the IU campus, and several tables will feature community organizations. Boxcar Books, a volunteer-run bookstore on Sixth Street, and Community Center Inc. will share a table with the Midwest Pages to Prisoners Project.
Representatives of the organizations will be informing students of their purpose and promoting their cause.
Boxcar Books volunteer Taylor Dean said the fair is a good place to talk to people about getting involved.
“Think about where your interests are, what your skills are and who you would like to help,” Dean said. “There are lots of great community organizations in Bloomington.”
Get involved on campus
IU Student Association is the student-led governing body, and Student Body President Michael Coleman said there are several different ways students can choose to become involved with IUSA. Members of the group will be at the fair passing out T-shirts, explaining all IUSA’s goals and accomplishments and signing people up for e-mail lists.
“We’re just trying to get people pumped up about student government,” Coleman said. “It opens students up to what’s on the campus. They can see what’s going on, but they can’t see who’s behind it.”
With new contacts established at the fair, IUSA will send applications to interested students.
