DEA “Take Back” initiative to curb prescription drug abuse

In conjunction with local law enforcement, the Drug Enforcement Agency is launching its first nationwide “Take Back” initiative, which is designed to collect expired, unused and unwanted prescription medication that has the potential to be abused.

“Today we are launching a first-ever National Prescription Drug Take-Back campaign that will provide a safe way for Americans to dispose of their unwanted prescription drugs,” Michele Leonhart, acting administrator of the DEA, said in a press release issued by DEA.

On Sept. 25, all Indiana State Police posts, with the exception of the Toll Road Post in northern Ind., will serve as designated drop off sites from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

“The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked,” according to a press release issued by Indiana State Police Sgt. Joe Watts.
