Accessibility focus for Dean after move to new office in IMU

Dean of Students Harold “Pete” Goldsmith is now more centrally located on campus with a new office in the Indiana Memorial Union.

“It makes a lot of sense for our office to be in the hub of student life on campus,” said Goldsmith in a press release. “And the Union is certainly the hub of student life at IU Bloomington.”

The office, completed in mid-August, replaced its former location in Franklin Hall. The IMU layout enables easier access for students and proximity to student organizations and activities. There is also a waiting area for visitors and a conference room for meetings with division directors, staff and students.

“The new location at the Indiana Memorial Union will make it easier for students to take advantage of the many essential services offered by the Dean of Students office,” said Provost and Executive Vice President Karen Hanson in the release. “The work of the Dean of Students and the Office of Student Affairs is crucial to the success and well-being of our students. The central location of this much improved office space is not only symbolically but also practically important.”

The new location takes the place of the old IU Outdoor Adventures, which moved to Eigenmann Hall in the spring.

However, the Dean’s office is not the only one in the new set-up. The space also includes offices for the Parents Association and the Veterans Support Services, among others.

The Disability Services for Students office remains in the original space in Franklin Hall.

“There are 14 separate offices within the division but we all have the same goal: to help students be successful and get the most out of their IU experience,” Goldsmith said in the release.
