A nearly year-long investigation into an alleged cocaine dealer ended in the Bloomington Wal-Mart parking lot Thursday.
Enrique J. Gonzalez, 39, of Bedford, was arrested on a warrant for two counts of dealing cocaine.
The joint investigation between the Bloomington Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives began in fall of 2009 when, according to the probable cause affidavit, detectives received information that Gonzalez was trafficking large amounts of cocaine from out of state.
The investigation consisted of multiple controlled buys of cocaine from Gonzalez throughout Monroe and Lawrence counties. The amount of cocaine was in excess of three grams during each buy—a Class A felony.
A warrant for Gonzalez’s arrest was issued on July 14. ATF agents received information that he was in the Bloomington area and officers began doing surveillance.
On Thursday, officers observed a red Saturn, possibly being driven by Gonzalez, pull into the Wal-Mart parking lot.
“Officers approached and took Gonzalez into custody without incident,” Lt. David Drake of the BPD said.
Gonzalez was with a female passenger, but she is not charged with any crime.
Once arrested, Gonzalez told police that he has previously served 10 years in a federal prison for other drug charges.
