Seventh Circuit Judge to relocate chamber to Maurer School of Law

Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit the Honorable David Hamilton announced plans Thursday to relocate his chambers to the Maurer School of Law by the end of 2010.

“I am looking forward to the opportunity to participate in the life of the law school,” Hamilton said in an IU press release. “I am sure that there will be many learning opportunities in both directions.”

In the press release, dean and Val Nolan Professor of Law Lauren Robel said the school is delighted that Hamilton is becoming more integrated into the law school community.

“His presence in the school will enable him to carry out his judicial responsibilities while exposing our students to the widest possible array of professional opportunities,” she said in the release.

While Hamilton is a graduate of Yale Law School and Haverford College, he has a longstanding relationship with the Maurer School of Law. He has taught a clinic on the federal courts and is an emeritus member of the school’s Board of Visitors.

Before gaining his current position, Hamilton was a judge in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana from 1994 to 2009, serving as chief judge from 2008 to 2009. Hamilton was nominated to the Seventh Circuit by President Barack Obama and confirmed by the Senate in Nov. 2009.
