Kristian Matsson’s ability to transform his Swedish experiences into a very southern, American folk sound is what makes “The Wild Hunt” glow.
The rhythm behind his powerful strumming and delicateness in his picking patterns are surprisingly not noticeably blues-based, as many American folk singers tend to be.
The strength and honesty behind Matsson’s voice is at times spine-chilling. His simple lyrics mirror southern American folk singers, with the main objective being to evoke emotion.
The simplicity of “The Wild Hunt” is striking; one man, his voice and his guitar — and a piano on the last track. Although at times it might seem to be lacking, the accomplishments of this record are undeniable.
