Sigur Ros’ succeeds solo

jonsi

Jonsi, the lead singer and guitarist behind the legendary Icelandic band Sigur Ros released his debut solo album “Go,” which highlights the gentle beauty and classical experimental style presented in Sigur Ros’ discography.

Featuring extensive string arrangements from composer Nico Muhly, “Go” begins with a high energy track with steady drums and fierce hand-clapping augmented by an airy flute. Jonsi’s vocal style is consistent through this album, as it has been through his career with Sigur Ros. His dreamy falsetto and beautiful melodies flutter throughout this album, resulting in strong choruses and an overall catchy head-bopping resonance.

The rhythm and sound of the Icelandic language, though very similar to English, adds an extended mystery and uniqueness to his already independent style. Amazing arrangements, variety of classical instruments and ambient sound samples are present in every track of “Go,” which color it and fill the listener’s ear.

Jonsi is slowly becoming a more mature and remarkable artist, leveling the likes of Thom Yorke. Hopefully, “Go” marks the beginning of a long solo career for Jonsi.
