“Death at a Funeral” is an American retelling of a British movie of the same name from 2007. Normally, this would denote a reduction in quality, and to some degree this is true, but this version is still pretty darn hilarious.
The movie is about a dysfunctional family that gathers for the funeral of the family patriarch. It’s a wonderful comedy of errors where anything that can go wrong does, and worse — including misplaced drugs, knocked-over coffins and a gay midget blackmailing the family with a father’s dark secret.
The comedic talent is huge, sparing no expense to bring the best actors on board. Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence, Danny Glover, Tracy Morgan, Luke Wilson, James Marsden and Zoe Saldana are the main-name players, but you’ll be playing “Where have I seen them before?” with most of the other actors, too.
With a great script, solid talent and plenty of side-splitting laughs, “Death at a Funeral” is a satisfying and solid adaptation, something you can’t say about most of its kind.
Retold, but still funny
