Bringing back the riot grrrl

With metallic yet melodic vocals and a quiet yet intense resonating aura, the Dum Dum Girls bring back an old sound with debut album “I Will Be.”

It is impossible to listen to “I Will Be” without being reminded of ’90s girl bands like Bikini Kill and the whole riot-grrrl movement.

The punk aspects of “I Will Be” are somewhat limited but it features calm and powerful songs such as “Jail La La” and “Rest of Our Lives.” There are only two songs on “I Will Be” that are longer than three minutes, so it all moves along in a fast-paced punk way.
Staying true to the lo-fi movement, the Dum Dum Girls have produced an album that not only creates the innovative and raw aspects of lo-fi but also sweet, catchy melodies and wonderful instrumentals.
