An attempted murder suspect from Indiana who led police on a wild pursuit that ended at the driveway entrance to Universal Studios Hollywood in Los Angeles is hospitalized in stable condition after being shot twice during the chase, police said.
Steven Satterly was wanted for attempted murder in his hometown of Wabash, Ind., and “will face a variety of other charges,” Burbank police Sgt. Robert Quesada said.
He was hospitalized in stable condition early Tuesday, Lt. William Berry said.
Satterly is suspected of stabbing his former girlfriend, 22-year-old Holly Honeycutt, in the neck on March 24 in Wabash, Detective Ryan Short of Wabash said Tuesday. The two have a 1-year-old son, who was not hurt.
Satterly is sought in Indiana for attempted murder, burglary and robbery, Short said.
Satterly, 30, was driving a stolen Chevrolet Blazer and was shot twice during Monday’s chase, Quesada said.
The hour-long, 80-mile pursuit began in California’s San Bernardino County where officers attempted to pull him over for speeding, police said. The chase continued west on Interstate 210 and State Highway 134, at times reaching speeds up to 100 mph, then onto streets in Los Angeles and Burbank.
At one point, Satterly became stuck in a traffic jam near Universal and police officers surrounded him with weapons drawn.
News helicopters were broadcasting live from overhead when one police officer appeared to fire a shot through the driver’s side window.
The driver continued to weave through traffic, finally stopping at the entrance to Universal Studios. He got out of the car and began to run, then was felled by another shot, Quesada said.
The driver struggled with officers before he was handcuffed then taken by paramedics to the hospital.
